5 Addicting Subtraction Games for Kindergarten

If there is one thing we wouldn’t mind our children getting addicted to it’s learning. Allowing them to learn whilst having fun or playing is the best way to encourage an inquisitive mind, it also means that the information is more easily absorbed and retained in their beautiful youthful spongy brains.

Learning games are a great way to get your child engaged with and enjoy education. Whether that be word games, simple playground games or on the computer it doesn’t matter as long as your child is laughing whilst they learn. Sometimes you need to focus on a specific area or improve on an area that they find challenging, this is where putting the cool back into mathematics which is most important. To that end, if your minor is struggling with the minus we’ve put together a list of 5 of our favorite subtraction games.

1. MathPlayground

MathPlayground is a wonderful website that features a rich roster of different games that introduce almost any mathematical skill you can think of. With so many varied games to choose from your child is sure to never get bored and they are all beautifully animated with bright colors and adorable characters to keep them glued in.

2. Playing Cards

This is a fun game that you can play together with your child and easily introduce any mathematical concept too. Conveniently, your standard deck of cards only goes up to 10 if you remove the face cards; you can both draw two cards and then subtract the lower value from the higher, the remainder is your score for that hand. See who has the highest score once you’ve exhausted the deck. You can come up with your own rules and it’s a wonderful way to spend time together and learn.

3. Mathlingo

This app is incredible! It again features beautiful animation and colorful characters that excite and engage the young mind, but it also allows for tracking of progress and rewards learners for achieving success and improving. It covers a lot of different concepts and you can choose which to focus on. The subtraction games for kindergarten level learners are particularly useful; as they do with addition they approach the topic from different angles featuring word games, numerical, picture maths and many more. 4. Bean Bag Buddies

This is a fun game that we used to play as kids. All you need is a couple of bean bags and some chalk. Draw a grid on the pavement in your yard and number it 1 to 10. Now you take it in turns chucking your bean bags at the grid and then subtracting the sum.

5. 7 Ate 9

This is a fast-paced and fun card game that the whole family can play together. The premise is simple enough, you add or subtract 1, 2, or 3 from the value of the card and then the winner is the first player to play a card that matches the sum. The first player out of cards wins.
